Earlier this week, heavy rain caused massive floods in several states in Malaysia, namely Johor, Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang, which was one of the most badly affected. The situation has worsened for the past few days, and total number of evacuated people are over 40,000. Many relief centers are full at the moment with most of them needing help in the form of basic necessities and medical supplies.
The Malaysian Integrated Medical Professionals Association (MIMPA), the parent organization for the Malaysian Medical Gazette has organized a rescue effort for the people of Pahang since early this week. One of the affected resident of Kuantan is our very own Chief Editor, Dr. Hidayah, who had to evacuate her home and seek higher ground. Nevertheless, she is safe and actively involved in purchasing and sending much needed medical supplies to the relief centers.
MIMPA has also mobilized a team of doctors to send to the affected areas to help out. The team, consisting of MIMPA’s president, Dr. Dhesi BR and treasurer, Dr. Irwilla, with a few other dedicated doctors are due to land in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday morning from East Malaysia and will be taking a helicopter straight to Kuantan.
MIMPA is also coordinating various donation and sponsorship efforts in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. Those who are interested to donate, please email to themimpa@gmail.com or malaysianmedicagazette@gmail.com. The money collected will be used mainly to purchase medical supplies.
